I recently got a new HP laptop (which was frustrating as hell, but I won't go into that here.HP needs to vastly improve customer service and quit using overseas call centers for technical issues). I grew endlessly frustrated at occasional to frequent Digital Persona dpotspluginie8.dll errors with both IE8 and now IE9 on my HP dv9700t with AES2501A fingerprint reader. HP Pavilion dv6835ca, Intel Core2Duo CPU T5550 1.83 GHz, 3.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2 * IE 8.0.6.001.18999 * NIS 2011 * DigitalPersona Personal v. I've cross-posted this information in the MS Answers IE forum, so apologies if you've already read this information elsewhere. It's not a perfect solution but at least I can use my web browser again. I disabled the DP add-on in IE 8 a few days ago and my browser has stopped crashing and the DpOtsPluginIe8.dll is no longer throwing an Application error (EventID 1000) in the the Windows Event Viewer. If that doesn't work and you don't need DP to log on to protected websites, disable the DigitalPersona Personal Extension add-on in IE 8 (Tools | Manage Add-ons | Toolbars and Extensions) as suggested by Ryan654.

from within the DP software if necessary.

First update the DP Personal to the latest v. So here's my recommendation, for what it's worth. They have no plans at this time to provide alternate software customers who have fingerprint readers on their HP PCs, and their only suggestion was that I uninstall DP Personal and then re-install the same version to see if that stops my IE browser from crashing. They did not know that DP Personal is an end-of-life product, and they also insisted that the latest release for Vista is v. HP Support (1-80 in US/Canada) was no help at all.

DP also told me that the Pro version of their software is meant for business use and that they will no longer be producing a consumer (home user) version of any fingerprint reader software. This means that DP Personal is not compatible with the latest Java 6.23 release. will not work with Java versions newer than Java 6 update 20 (build 1.6.0_20) is compatible with IE 8 and both 32-bit and 64-bit systems (see here for related info on v. is the last version updated and released for HP is end-of-life software and no further updates or patches will be released (see here) I've had replys from DigitalPersona (DP) and HP support about this problem, and the news isn't good if you're using DigitalPersona Personal (i.e., not the corporate DigitalPersona Pro version) or if your PC warranty has expired.ĭP Support was very helpful in spite of the fact that HP is responsible for supporting software that comes pre-bundled with HP computers. Disabling the DigitalPersona add-on in IE as suggested by Ryan654 in the previous post also solved my problem.

My Internet Explorer 8 browser has crashed several times in the past few weeks, and the problem appears to be related to theDigitalPersona Personal Extension OTS Feedback plugin for IE (DpOtsPluginIe8.dll, v.
